Richard Harrison is a specialist family lawyer with particular expertise in matrimonial finance and international children cases. He is recommended as a leading junior in both the Chambers & Partners Directory (finance and children) and The Legal 500:

He specialises in complex financial cases including those involving offshore trusts and difficult issues of enforcement. He appeared in the Mubarak litigation which generated seven reported authorities on different aspects of enforcement. He also deals with applications under the Trusts of Land and applications under schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989.  He also regularly advises about and settles pre-nuptial agreements for very high net worth clients.

He has been involved in some of the leading child abduction cases in recent years. He acted for the successful appellant in the landmark House of Lords decision in Re D (A child) [2006] 3 WLR 989.  More recently he has acted for the child in Re P-J (Abduction: Habitual Residence: Consent) [2009] 2 FLR 1051 and for the successful Respondent in Re S [2009] EWCA Civ 1021.

He also specialises in cases involving international forum disputes under Council Regulation (EC) 2201/2003, the Domicile and Matrimonial Proceedings Act 1973 and the Family Law Act 1986. He appeared in Re D (Stay of Children Act proceedings)[2003] 2 FLR 1159.

He has expertise in relation to a broad range of private law children issues including applications for leave to remove. He appeared in the House of Lords in Dawson v Wearmouth [1999] 2 AC 308, the leading authority on change of surname.

Richard Harrison is a Consultant Editor of Hershman and McFarlane Children Law and Practice.

In 2009 he was a speaker at the International Bar Association (“IBA”) conference in Madrid.  In 2010 he will be speaking about pre-nuptial agreements at the IBA Wealth Transfer Practices Conference in London.

Richard Harrison is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French. He is a member of the Family Law Bar Association and Lawyers for Liberty.
