Called to the Bar in 1998, Shona practised in Nottingham until March 2010 when she joined 1 KBW. Starting as a mixed practitioner, undertaking work in the fields of crime, civil and family law, Shona has developed a specialism in all aspects of family law relating to children since 2002. Her practice includes public and private law proceedings from care proceedings to abduction, domestic violence injunctions to judicial review. She represents parents, local authority's, children, Guardians, parents via the Official Solicitor, interveners and extended family members. Shona does not undertake ancillary relief or financial work.
Shona is qualified as a collaborative lawyer.
Particular areas of experience and interest are:
- serious domestic abuse of children and adults. Cases include the torture and murder of a parent, serious physical abuse of children, 'shaken baby'/ NAHI/ NAI cases, factitious illness syndrome.
- allegations of sexually abusive behaviour involving adults and children. Cases include intra-familial sexual abuse, 'paedophile rings', internet child pornography, rape, sex addiction.
- issues relating to mental capacity and learning disability.
- breach of human rights/ local authority responsibility/ judicial review
- Disclosure/ public interest immunity
- hostile parent/ contact and shared residence breakdown
- leave to remove/ removal from jurisdiction
